My husband had this bright idea - let's take the kids to see Disney on Ice at the Mellon Arena! The littlest two are VERY excited about this outing tomorrow, and the older two are amused apparently. My Sarah had a surgery on 30 January, a bilatera...
We vacation at ocean city Maryland. He loves the boardwalk and all of the music performers. Since Alex uses a wheelchair, the bike is great for getting his legs moving!!

Sarah LOVES Riding for the Handicapped of Western PA. This photo is from 2007-2008 riding year, when she won a second place ribbon at the annual horse show.
This is a photograph of Sarah' Make a Wish trip, 2002. She was treated like a princess, indeed, and we all had a wonderful time!
This is my family at Halloween, 2007, at Idelwilde Park's Halloween Boo! It was such fun!
My darling gal finally has her casts off after her surgery, but it has been a horrible, pain-filled, sleep-deprived couple of weeks. The surgeon sees no physiological reason for Sarah's discomfort, and I do see a tremendous amount of fear in her. I understand what a crippling force fear can be, and I have been racking my brain to come up with ways to help her through this. She is receiving very little therapy through school (educationally, I suppose it is not important that a little girl walk, r… Continue
My husband had this bright idea - let's take the kids to see Disney on Ice at the Mellon Arena! The littlest two are VERY excited about this outing tomorrow, and the older two are amused apparently. My Sarah had a surgery on 30 January, a bilateral subtalar stabilization, which results in her casted feet and an even more limited mobility. When we were escaping-um, released- from St. Margaret's Hospital, Sarah saw a billboard advertising the event, and even through her pain meds, she smiled and e… Continue
In 2002, Sarah underwent her 3rd major surgery. Her leg bones needed to be reconfigured again. She had a follow up appointment with her pediatrician which seemed to go well, but later that week, I received a telephone call from Make a Wish saying that Sarah was recommended by her doctor for their services. I nearly passed out. You see, I believed that Make a Wish only provided Wishes for terminally ill children. After the nice lady on the other end of the line helped me to stop hyperventilating… Continue
Here are just a few websites that I thought might be of some use to fellow parents who have little ones with Special Needs. I have found these organizations or pages to be of use. I will add more as I think of them, and I welcome other information of help, if you know of any.
http://www.ucp.org/ has many individual sites for individual states. They offer educational programming and an opportunity to network.

Riding for the Handicapped of WPA is a tremendous resource that I thank the Lord that we found! My Sarah benefits tremendously from her weekly visit to Ford Farm Stables in Allison Park, Pennsylvania, where volunteers headed by a saintly woman, Toots Abbott, gently guide the children, all of whom are in some way handicapped, through their therapapeutic riding. The horses and ponies are all gentle creatures whose muscles and warmth loosen our children's often overly tight muscles. The kids have t… Continue
